What to Do in Charleston in the Winter
While visiting Charleston in the winter, consider making reservations to experience the seasonal festivities. The Grand Illumination Dinner at Middleton Place Plantation includes a theatrical production and dinner that will transport you back in time to Christmas 1782. Tickets sell out months in advance, so plan ahead if you are interested. The Dickens Dinner, another holiday favorite that takes place in Charleston, includes a four-course dinner accompanied by a retelling of “A Christmas Carol.” And you may also want to reserve tickets ahead for a themed candlelight tour of the Edmondston-Alston House.
A horse-drawn carriage tour and tours of at least one historic plantation (Middleton Place, Magnolia, Drayton Hall & Boone Hall) are must-do items on a visit to Charleston. And be sure to reserve a seat at HUSK or FIG for food made with fresh southern ingredients. Reservations go fast and these restaurants fill up for dinner about a month in advance; but they are worth the extra planning.
